HUMBLE IN HEART
“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29, NASB
Dear Friends,
What does it mean to be humble? According to merriam-webster.com, this characteristic is defined as “not proud or haughty : not arrogant or assertive.”
God esteems humility.
The Bible presents this truth time and again, for God understands our prideful tendencies. He’s always honored when we possess humility, and this quality especially should mark our prayers. Of course, developing humility involves a process, yet our patient Heavenly Father is committed to the journey.
May we devote ourselves to acquiring this Christlike quality in increasing measure.
For everyday life, being humble means:
- We realize we don’t know everything.
- We acknowledge God surpasses all.
- We value others above ourselves.
- We approach the living God appropriately.
Above all, humble people recognize their desperate need for Christ.
Let’s pursue the beauty of humility, knowing God is pleased when we imitate Christ in this way. Though the world pushes us to rely on ourselves and accept its dogma, we find peace when we humbly submit to God and His ways.
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7, KJV
