HEART STIRRINGS: We Sin, Jesus Stays, & a Ministry Logo
Dear Readers,
Wow. Life has changed drastically for me over the last month. And I must say, it feels wonderful to be writing this post for you. So let me get started…
THE GLORY OF JESUS
I’ve struggled periodically in my daily reading of Jeremiah because the content can be a real downer. While I prefer to encounter inspiring and heartwarming verses, accounts of Israel’s rebellion and unfaithfulness to God serve as sobering reminders. They blare the unhappy yet true reality that like God’s chosen people, we sin.
But, JESUS.
Jeremiah’s response to his people’s suffering and behavior captured my attention this morning:
“Oh, that my head were waters, And my eyes a fountain of tears, That I might weep day and night For the slain of the daughter of my people! O that I had in the desert A wayfarers’ lodging place; That I might leave my people, And go from them! For all of them are adulterers, An assembly of treacherous men” (Jeremiah 9:1-2, NASB).
The prophet longed to weep nonstop, and his grief prompted me to think about the sorrow JESUS carried when He walked on this earth. The stench of sin must have hovered around Him like noxious fumes, stealing His breath away here and there. We can’t even imagine the offensiveness of our sin to the Holy Son of God.
Still, He stays.
Though Jeremiah yearned to leave the Israelites due to their egregious sin, JESUS meets us in our mess. Rather than abandoning us in our filth, the Lord left heaven’s glory, inhabited a human body, and sacrificed Himself for you and me. Then glory be, He rose again!
Never to leave or forsake His own.
MINISTRY HIGHLIGHTS
It seems I usually receive a Journey assignment this time of year, and I was concerned I’d be unable to meet the deadline due to my work schedule. So, I contacted my editor and asked whether she could grant me a June or July deadline should she request another set of devotions. She replied in the affirmative, also communicating her desire to keep me as a writer. And that just makes me smile inside and out. Praise the Lord.
Another note of interest involves the branding of this ministry. My daughter, who is in her final semester as an advertising and graphic design student, is planning to create a logo for Proclaiming Him to Women Ministries. My dear girl offered this as her 2020 Christmas present to me, and I am so excited!!!
Perhaps you’ve noticed I’ve been pretty quiet lately—not much writing or speaking going on. At least not in my usual arenas. But every day at school, I have the opportunity to share God’s Word with my students. I don’t take that opportunity lightly, and I trust God will use the words He gives me for His purposes.
UNTIL NEXT TIME
Thanks for spending a few moments with me, enjoying the Lord and catching up on the latest. May God continue to stir our hearts toward JESUS until that awesome day when we meet Him face to face. (And if you’ve never received the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, won’t you place your faith in Him today?)
“The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come'” (Revelation 22:17a).
