“Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10, NASB

Dear Friend,

I recently found myself in an unpleasant place—an unwelcome place I’ve dwelt before. Perhaps you’ll recognize the name of it: Comparison. Somehow its claws sunk into me. Looking at other writers and potential writers, my mind filled with insecurities and doubts. I didn’t even know whether I should write today. But when I asked God to give me something if He wanted me to write, the first line of this poem flitted through my mind.

Perhaps you’re not a writer like me, yet I believe you’re a dreamer like me. What unfulfilled dream nestles in your heart? I pray it will surface and soar as you read my thoughts, which are more raw than I’d like, but they’re what God gave me. And so, I write…

In Christ’s Love,

I find myself
Looking back, counting years.
I view today feeling
Unaccomplished.
Slipping, my dream
Seems unattainable.
Like morning mist rises
And web wisps float.
But something clings
Is it You, my Father?
Did You plant this dream deep
For Your purpose?
I find myself
Looking ahead, unsure
Is this Your plan or mine?
I need to know.
Remove this dream
If it’s my own making
Yet if You’re the Giver
Free me from doubt.
Open the door
Clear my way, guide my steps
Focus my eyes ahead
Straight toward You.
Confirm this dream
Move me out of the way
Be glorified oh God
Use it. Use me.

  1. Dear Emily, the beauty of your vulnerability has touched my heart. You walk in humblenss before our Father and He delights in YOU! Our weaknesses are where He shows His mighty strength. Your writing is a blessing to me and I thank God for you, friend!

    1. Dear Andrea,

  2. Emily, your poem mirrors the prayer in my heart for my own dream as a writer. Thank you so much for this prayer blueprint! Also, the Scripture you chose speaks directly to the concerns in my heart today. Your work brings glory to God! He has blessed me through you. Love.

    1. Dear Jennifer,

It’s truly a privilege to serve God in any capacity. What an encouragement to hear you say my work glorifies God. Thank you. God be praised! And may He encourage you forward in your writing dream, providing all you need to accomplish His plans for you. Also, i’m glad Is. 41:10 ministered to you today ~ one of my favorite verses! Love you, sister.

      In Christ’s Love,
      Emily
