“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” 1 John 3:1, NIV
I’ve used a hand held mixer for almost 30 years. And it’s helped me mix some delicious batters for others to enjoy … plus me! I appreciated my little mixer and sort of got attached to it over time. It enabled me to bring joy into my family members’ and friends’ lives by way of yummy cakes and cookies.
But let me tell you something amazing.
Today I used my brand-new stand mixer for the first time. A mother’s day gift from my son, Everett, and his beautiful wife, Anna, this mixer equals l-o-v-e. They delighted in purchasing it for me, wrapping it up, and watching me open it. After using this appliance, I understand why they wanted me to have one: it’s incredible! The longer I used it, the more I loved it. Who knew how simple it could be for batter to beat together on its own, allowing me to add ingredients as needed? No more balancing the hand mixer or setting it down between adjustments. Everything felt so easy. Why did I wait so long to own one of these?
Everett and Anna gave this mixer to me out of love, and I use it to express love. For instance, today is my son Zachary’s 22nd birthday, so the cake batter I mixed earlier formed the almond pound cake he requested for dessert. Yum, yum.
During this happy experience in the kitchen, which isn’t always the case, the Holy Spirit brought a spiritual comparison to mind: God didn’t just do what was necessary to “get the job done” when it came to our salvation. He poured His heart into it. He sent His only beloved Son and wrapped Him in human form. He delights in seeing us “open” the gift of His Son by receiving Jesus with joy and placing our faith in Him. Yet God doesn’t stop there. He pours His love on us over and over and over. Like the difference between my hand mixer, that gets the job done, and my stand mixer, that cadillac of mixing, God lavishes His love on you and me.
Some of us are experiencing tough times, which saddens me. We ache for one another as brothers and sisters in Christ. Whether we carry burdens, wrestle with anxieties, or feel worn out with health problems, please hear me say,
Let God love you through this trial. #GodsLove #Trials Share on XWe might think we can handle it, and we might do a pretty decent job juggling everything plus keeping ourselves afloat. However. Relying on God is So. Much. Better. Maybe we don’t understand that because we’re used to facing difficulties alone, thinking we just need to push through. We don’t know how much better it could be.
When we let go and allow God to act fully on our behalf, we'll stand amazed by His love. #Trials #TrustGod Share on XGod’s love knows no limitations.
Like my magnificent mixer that does all the work so effortlessly, the Lord lovingly blends the pieces of our lives together. Let Him love you, my friend. You’ll wonder why you waited so long.

Me too! Why did i wait so song to get a Kitchen-aid Mixer? I even took one back years ago after receiving it as a Christmas present because I didn’t feel I had room in my kitchen and I knew how much it cost. Love you my friend! Kindred spirit.
Dear Andy,
I can so relate to you making that return for perfectly logical reasons! I think about kitchen counter space and all that, too. Ahh, we are kindred spirits in so many ways. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. So glad to have you!

Thank you Emily for that wonderful insight and the Love that God has given to you to share with others! You are a beautiful person inside and out! It is very difficult for me to accept and understand the love that God has for me because I really haven’t experienced that kind of Love. I know and believe that He is true to His Holy Word because he’s proved it to me so many times! I do long to have a better relationship with him but I allow fear and doubt to take over at times. Being by myself makes it difficult at times to get through the struggles in this life! I seem to cry out a lot to Jesus to help me! Thank you again!
Dear Barbara,
You are so welcome ~ it’s an honor to be used by the Lord to share about Him with others. My sister, He loves you more than you know. Thank you for your openness in sharing – I pray as God continues to reveal His love to you that He’ll enable you to receive it without hesitation. You’re doing the right thing by crying out to Him. He hears you. Thanks so much for stopping by to read and comment.

Emily,
I love my stand mixer! I also love how you use the ordinary things of life to point us to the Father’s love.
God bless, dear sister!
By the way, your website is amazing.
Dear Beckie,
I can picture you mixing up sweet treats for your family in your stand mixer… didn’t you share a chocolate cake recipe one time on your blog? And thanks much for reading my post plus commenting. Your words encourage me. To God be the glory ~ it’s just like Him to show us something about Himself through ordinary things. Also, I’m thrilled about your feedback on my website – thanks very much! (I’ve always thought yours is lovely.)
