“God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.” Hebrews 1:1-2, NASB
Leaving His Father and heaven’s glory, He humbly came:
“Then He said, ‘BEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO THY WILL.'” Hebrews 10:10
The world didn’t acknowledge or revere Him. Neither did His people.
“He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.” John 1:10-11
Still, Jesus came. Somehow He kept loving despite being rejected…
“He was despised and rejected by mankind.” Isaiah 53:3, NIV
He didn’t stand out:
“He has no stately form or majesty That we should look upon Him, Nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him.” Isaiah 53:2
As Jesus walked dusty roads and extended His hands to those in need, He didn’t seek attention.
“He will not cry out or raise His voice, Nor make His voice heard in the street.” Isaiah 42:2
But He did stand out … to those His Father drew to Him…
“And He continued by questioning them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ Peter answered and said to Him, ‘Thou art the Christ.'” Mark 8:29
He poured Himself into others–sacrificing sleep and comfort:
“And Jesus said to him, ‘The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.'” Luke 9:58
Until one day He poured out His blood.
“This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.” Matthew 26:28
He came. He lived. He died. Jesus left everything … to become nothing … for you and me. Willingly He obeyed and perfectly revealed His Father’s heart:
“And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” Hebrews 1:3
While His sacrificial death was sufficient once and for all (see Heb. 10), Jesus still intercedes for us. He sees our needs as we walk this earth. Seated at His Father’s side, He speaks to Him on our behalf…
“Hence, also, He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7:25
Oh, the marvelous beauty within this One who came for you and me! THIS. IS. JESUS. Having proven His love for all eternity, He’s captivated my heart and secured me forever.
“My beloved is mine, and I am his.” Song of Songs 2:16
Dear one, is He yours too?
“If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.” Romans 10:9
“This is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.” John 17:3
God has spoken–He IS speaking–in His Son. May we listen … and know Him well.
Wonderful and powerful words, Emily!
Thank you, dear Lisa! To God be all the glory – what an awesome God He is!
In Christ’s Love,
Emily
