Loving, merciful, gracious, tender-hearted, good Father,
You cradle our hearts in Your hands. Appreciatively we recognize Your infinite understanding and wise compassion. Certainly we never receive comfort from anyone that surpasses the comfort You give. Most truly You are the God of all comfort. And in that light, we lift up those in our lives — maybe even ourselves — who hurt.
With genuine concern, I ask You to minister to _______’s troubled spirit. Whatever burden he/she carries, however he/she is dealing with pain, I beseech You to intervene. Graciously cover my loved one with the warmth of Your everlasting love. Gently open his/her eyes to Your activity on his/her behalf … his/her ears to Your voice of truth. Let him/her not be enmeshed in fear, doubt, or hopelessness. Rather surround him/her with Your protective armor : the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, the preparation of the Gospel of peace, the shield of faith, helmet of salvation, sword of the Spirit — the Word of God, and prayers in the Spirit.
Like the soothing benefits of poured-out oil, please wash over _______’s wounded heart and penetrate his/her aches with Your healing touch.
Father, wholly we trust You with our dear ones. Unsure of how to help, we request Your wisdom to fill us. Use us as Your instrument of blessing and encouragement despite our lack of ability and knowledge. Thank You for all YOU will do.
Hallowed be Your name, glorious God of all comfort.
In Jesus’ sweet name, Amen.
