“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and YOU SHALL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy, and My load is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30
God gave me a sweet gift this morning: extra sleep. After awakening from a deficient slumber, I got up to begin my routine. Yet as I sat in my reading chair–Bible open and coffee cup in hand–I felt terrible. My sleep deprived body craved more rest but it was getting late and my schedule demanded attention. I cried out to the Lord and candidly expressed my thoughts. Then, I set my mug down and leaned my head against the chair cushion. Surprisingly, I drifted into a peaceful sleep and awoke very refreshed. It felt as though I’d reclined against my heavenly Father’s shoulder and slept in the comfort of His embrace.
It was probably just a 15 minute nap. But what an extraordinary difference it made in my day! I marvel still at God’s tender love and care. He met me in my need and supplied my heart’s desire. Oh, He is SO good.
To top it off, the Lord brought Matthew 11:28-30 to my attention. He provided the physical rest I wanted and also spoke peace into my heart. What especially stood out was the phrase “I am gentle and humble in heart”. So beautiful–this description of my Lord. I experienced His gentleness today in a tangible way. I was convicted by His humility and my lack thereof.
What need are you desiring to have fulfilled? Physical, spiritual, emotional–you name it. God has it. Take your need to Him and see what He will do.
He’s a good God. Gentle. Humble. And ever faithful.
“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” – Psalm 23:1
