Being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed” (Romans 3:24-25, NASB).
Dear Readers,
The wording of Romans 3:25 created a startling visual for me this morning: Jesus Christ…
- hanging on the cross
- dripping blood
- under people’s scrutiny
- humiliated
- for me
Sometimes the magnitude of Christ’s sacrifice penetrates my heart more deeply. Picturing my best Friend and the Lover of my soul suspended between heaven and earth on a splintered cross… well, it led me to tears. Fluid formed in my eyes as sorrow for Jesus’ suffering plus gratitude for His sacrifice washed over me.
And it is good. Good to ponder what Jesus did for us. Though His body hung wounded with blood streaming down—surely a gruesome sight—we see His inner beauty: a love for His Father that submitted to death … a love for you and me that compelled Him to “lay down His life for His friends” (John 15:13).
May we never tire of Christ’s matchless beauty, demonstrated in a most piercing way. When Jesus hung on the cross for all to see, God displayed His indescribable love through His torn and bleeding flesh.
May we never forget. Jesus Christ, the perfect Lamb of God, shed His blood to pay for our sins. His sacrifice should change the way we think, the way we live, and the way we love. And it does, for all those who “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ” (Acts 16:31, KJV).
