“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:1-4, Nasb
Almighty God & Everlasting Father,
You reign. Forever and ever, seated on Your throne, You maintain control over every earthly kingdom. Even when it doesn’t seem like it, You reign.
In obedience to Your Word, we lift up the leaders of our countries—those who serve in our governments by Your sovereign will. We ask You to work in their hearts, drawing non-Christian ones to Christ. (Honestly, this seems an impossible request, yet we realize that’s because our faith oftentimes is too small.)
Who are we to doubt what You can do in men and women’s hearts? (Click to Tweet)
So we come. We bow our heads and hearts before You—King of eternity—and we plead on behalf of our leaders. They’re mighty and powerful, yes, but nothing compared to You. Many of them don’t seek Your face but consider their positions as means to their own ends.
Still, You reign.
Some leaders do acknowledge and rightly fear You, seeking to serve You as they work for their people. Thank You.
And always, You reign.
Wondrous God, we confess the sins of our respective nations, for every sin grieves Your holy heart. We long for peace, and we know that day is coming—when Jesus returns to reign in righteousness.
Until then, we lift up our leaders whom You’ve placed in authority over us. Please give us respectful attitudes and God-honoring ways. Enable us to shine the light of Christ as Your people, conducting ourselves like Christ did when He walked this earth.
Because You reign in us, help us show humility and love toward our government leaders. (Click to Tweet)
Thank You for the abilities and strengths You’ve given to our leaders. Thank You for the measure of safety and many freedoms their labors provide. Please lift their eyes to You and impart Your wisdom to them.
In Jesus’ mighty name,
Amen.
Thank you for a prayer that reflects God and not people in regards to leaders.
Dear MaryBeth,
I appreciate your comment so much – what a privilege we have in prayer. Thank you for your encouragement!
In Christ’s Love,
Emily
