Dream Come True

“Though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory.” 1 Peter 1:8, NASB

Whirling in circles under fairy dust sprinkles, Cinderella smiled. Every twirl transformed her torn dress into a gorgeous gown until it was finally complete. Her dream of reconnecting with the one who had captured her heart became oh-so-near. She was going to the ball.

I’ve always loved the Cinderella story, but I hadn’t thought about it for quite some time. Sitting in the theater with my daughter, however, changed that. I think I enjoyed the movie more than she did :). And this scene in particular resonated with me–it stirred something I’m sometimes afraid to believe:

Dreams do come true.

Lately, I’ve been checking e-mail frequently because I contacted an agent about my devotional book. We corresponded back and forth, I revised and returned my material, and now I wait. While I eagerly hope for a favorable reply, the Lord is so kind to return my gaze on Him. He’s a jealous God, desiring all of my heart all the time.

I honestly ask myself: What is my dream? Traditional publishing? Yes, I carry that dream, which might or might not come true.

Yet there’s one dream I can count on 100%. One day, I’ll look face-to-face at my beloved Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. NOTHING can prevent this from occurring, and NO ONE will ever come close to capturing my heart like He does. Though I sometimes get distracted and faultily place my affections elsewhere, the Lord brings me back. He redirects my focus, urging me to embrace HIM as my dream. I hate that my fickle heart wanders…

Dear one, what competes with your affection for Jesus?

Instead of overly desiring temporal things–or even another person–let’s re-awaken to Christ:

  • He loves us like no other.
  • He died for us … He LIVES!
  • He saves and forgives us.
  • He intercedes for us.
  • He protects and provides for us.
  • He never leaves us.
  • He’s preparing a gorgeous place for us.
  • He’s coming back for us.

Gazing at the cross, we see the Father’s gift. Selflessly He gave His Son to be ridiculed, tortured, and crucified. We witness Jesus, who willingly gave His life, suffering incomprehensible agony. God spared nothing in His plan to redeem.

Staring openmouthed at the empty tomb, we understand the Father’s pleasure with His Son’s sacrifice. We realize our Savior conquered death and lives forevermore. God wins!

This truth of God’s love isn’t a fairytale. It’s reality. Every person–whether they realize it or not–longs for this kind of love.

When JESUS captures our hearts, we long to meet Him face to face. And we will. HE is our dream come true.
