Child Eyes

“… Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever, For wisdom and power belong to Him … It is He who reveals the profound and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, And the light dwells with Him.” Daniel 2:20 & 22, NASB

Smaller than Luray Caverns, but outstanding nonetheless, Skyline Caverns in the Shenandoah National Park remains etched in my memory. It’s deep … SO deep. And utterly dark. On tour years ago with two of my beloved sisters, we diligently followed a light-bearing guide. But I seem to recall our group momentarily standing still without light. Like a smothering blanket, oppressive blackness enclosed me in the cavern’s coldness. I Did. Not. Like. It. Thankfully light pervaded, and in its effect we delightfully appreciated underground beauty. Eagerly my child eyes observed wonders within the enormous expanse.

How would we exist without light? We couldn’t. Pitch-blackness would immobilize us, paralyzing us in place. Yet many face life in this condition. Stranded in spiritual darkness, people live … without ever living at all. Countless members of humanity are entrapped by sin and incapable of getting free. Indeed everyone at some point was/is “… dead in your trespasses and sins …” (Eph. 2:1).

Enter Jesus.

… we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.” 1 Cor. 1:23-24

Almighty God eternally possesses wisdom and power, and graciously He’s displayed it in the Person of His Son. Through Christ, God astoundingly secured our salvation by Jesus’ death and resurrection.

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it … the true light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man … But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become the children of God, even to those who believe in His name.” John 1:4-5, 9, 12

The Lord Jesus humbly clothed Himself in human flesh that He might bear light and BE light. Because of Him, we’ve no need to dwell in darkness any longer. By placing our faith in Christ, graciously we’re forgiven of our sins and SET FREE! All who believe become God’s children, and daily we can walk in His light … with THE Light.

Through child eyes I experienced the emptiness and hopelessness of sheer darkness. Suffocating, frightening, alienating, it burdened me–but not Jesus. Physically and spiritually, God knows what lurks in the dark. He reveals ” the profound and hidden things … light dwells with Him.”

  • Are you searching for divine truth? God reveals Himself to those who truly seek.
  • Are you anxiously hiding sin? Allow God’s light to shine on you and reveal freedom’s path.

Again through child eyes I see the Light, my Savior, Jesus. Faithfully He guides me through life’s maze, always leading me ever closer to our Father.

How precious is Thy lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Thy wings. They drink their fill of the abundance of Thy house; And Thou dost give them to drink of the river of Thy delights. For with Thee is the fountain of life; In Thy light we see light.” Psalm 36:7-9

Gratefully I walk with Him. Will you?
