“The heavens are telling of the glory of God … Day to day pours forth speech, And night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; Their voice is not heard.” – Psalm 19:1-3
No speech. No words. Sounds like trouble for all of us who like to verbally communicate.
A couple of famous sayings come to mind:
- “Witness all the time, and when necessary, use words.”
- “Children learn what they live.”
There’s no question about it – words have power. Yet this Scripture passage and these quotes reveal it’s possible to communicate without words. In a powerful way.
The heavens constantly declare God’s glory without words. They communicate God’s existence to every human being. They proclaim His majesty and power … His awesome ability to perform mighty works. Simply looking at the sky and contemplating its vastness – its beauty – conveys a message to us from our Creator:
He is real. He is magnificent and worship worthy. He is almighty God.
The heavens declare God’s glory by functioning in the way He designed them. No words are necessary because they do what they were meant to do. Which brings another quote to mind: “Actions speak louder than words.”
Dear friends, God has also created us to declare His glory.
If all of our words were silenced, what would be left? Would our lives display God’s glory simply by what we do each day?
Something to think about. Pray about. And regularly search God’s Word about.
So we know how to live … without words.
“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus.” – Titus 2:11-13
