Children: A Gift from God

“Behold, children are a gift of the LORD; The fruit of the womb is a reward.” Psalm 127:3, NASB

Loving Father in Heaven,

I bow my head to thank You for my children. Tears of love form suddenly, shaping my emotions into something tangible. Oh, how I love my children. Gratitude for them, my precious gifts from You, will never cease.

I look at what You’ve accomplished and continue to accomplish in their lives. Awareness grips me: Your work is beautiful … wonderful. Your ability to create and weave together the intricacies of who they are—their personalities, their skills, their spiritual gifts, and more—amazes me.

My children aren’t perfect, Father, but they’re maturing in their relationship with You. Witnessing their spiritual growth always gladdens my heart. Because when all is said and done in this life, I long for them to enjoy an eternity of intimacy with You.

I confess the times I failed to display Your character to my children, yet I acknowledge Your faithfulness. You love them so well—chasing after them when they wander, reminding them they belong to You. You help them, teach them, lead them. And You give them every breath they breathe.

Thank You, Father.

Times are now changing for me as a mom. Since my children have reached adulthood, their needs have altered. I miss hearing their sweet voices of younger years and seeing their upturned faces. I’m thrilled, however, with who they’re becoming. All of the good I see is because of You, Jesus.

Please grant me grace to transition well—to support and love each one according to their individual needs. Enable me to let go in the appropriate ways while holding tightly to the essentials of motherhood: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Thank You for my beloved children. Please continue to use me in each of their lives for Your glory.

In Jesus’ matchless name,

Amen.
