Last week I shared briefly about my latest project: a Bible study for moms and mentors to use with their daughters—whether children by birth or daughters in the faith. I’m excited because this manuscript pairs the power of story with the power of God’s Word, drawing readers closer to the Master Storyteller.
God is developing a greater passion in me when it comes to passing down biblical truth to the next generation. Perhaps that’s partially the mom in me, but I believe the Bible teacher and mentor in me contribute to this desire as well. I long to diminish—in whatever small way I can—the biblical famine in our land.
Bible illiteracy currently plagues American Christianity. According to Ed Stetzer, “A recent LifeWay Research study found only 45 percent of those who regularly attend church read the Bible more than once a week.” Forty-five percent? Without the continual intake of God’s Word, we spiral down in weakness like a kite without wind. The world, the flesh, and the devil derail us more easily when we lack the power of God’s Word within to fight back or stand firm.
Lord willing, not only will my book impact young women, it will inspire and strengthen older women. Every reader will gain biblical knowledge while applying truth to her own life. As we purpose to learn Scripture’s contents, we’ll never come up empty. We’ll win every time.

God has entrusted spiritual gifts to each and every one of His children. These gifts are a “manifestation of the Spirit for the common good” (1 Cor. 12:7). In my case, He enables me to teach the Bible, and in this way I can impact women’s lives. It’s a small stroke on the multi-colored “canvas” He’s painting for His glory: “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Col. 1:28).

Dear friend, how has God gifted you to influence younger women in their faith? Your role is vital, and lives will be changed/are being changed because of God’s work through you. He’s for you, desiring to touch others through your relationship with Him …
So they’ll grow to love Jesus as much as you do.

Emily, Great article. Your book sounds wonderful. I too have a desire to speak the truth of the word. I mentor ladies at a residential rehab home. It is biblically based. The first thing we do when a girl arrives is listen to her story. Then we establish her spiritual walk (if there is one). We give her the gospel. Most girls that attend the home are saved. Each girl is given a Spiritual Gifts test and we help them understand it and develop it. God is so good to use the likes of us to minister to these ladies.
