Drawing Near: Afraid to Die

Abba! Father,

Someone very special to me fears death.

Maybe this is normal–I don’t know as I’ve never faced death lurking around the corner. Yet it seems when we’re Yours, You provide the most wondrous, comforting peace through the very end.

This is what I long for You to give my loved one.

Remove the fear, replacing it with Your powerful love. Disrupt every anxiety and soothe my dear one with Your steady voice. Speak through Your Word, reassure by Your Spirit, and confirm Your inescapable presence.

I know You never leave or forsake us–even in the valley of the shadow of death. But my loved one doesn’t appear to feel Your hand holding and guiding. So I’m crying out to You: Please, please reveal Yourself.

Banish the fear far away–erase it by Your glorious love. Remind this special one that Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, has CONQUERED death. Hallelujah!

Your children can rest securely like an infant nestled on her mother’s chest. You formed us before we breathed our first breath, and You’ll hold us safely in Your arms when we breathe our last.

Open my loved one’s eyes to see that in Christ, there’s no need to be afraid to die.

Thank You, Father.

In Jesus’ Mighty and Victorious Name, Amen.

“O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING? … thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:55 & 57, NASB

  1. Praying, dear Emily, for God’s peace which transcends all understanding, to be with your loved one. Praying that His love would envelope her in such a way that she would feel His loving arms all around her!
