The Price

“For you have been bought with a price … You were bought with a price …” 1 Cor. 6:20 & 7:23

Diligently, sacrificially, lovingly he worked. Under the sweltering sun in humid heat, he landscaped long hours to earn money for a diamond ring. For me. Though years have passed, this memory has grown sweeter. Picturing my beloved Mark giving his time and talent so I could wear a sparkly diamond truly warms my heart. Thinking about his tender love that fueled his efforts refreshingly touches me. Oh, how good to remember … to reflect … to reminisce about the strong love God blessed us with at the beginning. Mark sacrificed. He paid a price–my ring certainly wasn’t free.

Paying an exorbitant price for His bride, Jesus also sacrificed. Yet the cost exponentially exceeded anything we can imagine. He paid with His blood.

Jesus willingly gave it all: His dignity, His body, His blood, His love. Laying it all out, He completely poured Himself out–that we might be filled.

Condemned: Christ shed His blood, so we can be forgiven and free.

Forsaken: Christ suffered agonizing separation from His Father, so we’ll never be alone.

Dead: Christ bore our punishment for sin, so we can live eternally with Him.

Risen: Christ triumphed over death, so we can attain victory through Him.

Do we really comprehend the price He paid? Far too often I take it for granted. Caught up in daily life, I forget the LOVE that led Him to this lonely, cruel, selfish, wicked world. I forget the LOVE that led Him to the cross. For me. In my place. Piercingly, gratefully, joyfully, I pause in remembrance:

My Savior bought me with His precious blood.

I am His, and He is mine.

FOREVER.

Oh, how good to remember … to reflect … to reminisce about God’s limitless love. Jesus sacrificed. He paid the price–our salvation certainly wasn’t free. We are His bride redeemed by His blood. FOREVER.

“… you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life … but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.” 1 Peter 1:18-19

  1. Thank you for this reminder. We do continue in life without remembering what a price He paid for us.
